HOREB Institute
Historical & Objective Research & Exploration of the Bible
A 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization
Our Mission
HOREB Institute is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to advancing scholarly, unbiased inquiry into the Bible. Our work centers on historical, evidence-based exploration of biblical texts, archaeology, ancient history, and related disciplines—without promoting any specific religious denomination.
We exist to foster deeper understanding, inspire curiosity, and invite all students of Scripture into a rigorous, non-dogmatic journey of discovery.
Aims & Purposes
Historical & Objective Research
We explore the Bible through academic scholarship, archaeology, ancient Near Eastern studies, and text-critical methods. Our goal is to rethink biblical origins through careful, verifiable research that honors both the ancient sources and modern scholarship.
Educational Outreach
HOREB provides free or accessible learning opportunities, including:
- Live weekly online classes (e.g., Sunday School with Ross)
- Public lectures and special events
- Digital resources, video series, and study tools
All content encourages critical thinking and engagement with the world behind—and within—the biblical text.
Research & Scholarship
Through Horeb Press we publish original research, including:
- The Moses Scroll
- Works on significant biblical figures
- Ongoing studies in archaeology, text criticism, and historical analysis
We also collaborate on scholarly projects that challenge long-held assumptions and uncover historical truths often overlooked in traditional interpretations.
Community Building
HOREB is more than an institute—it is a movement.
We:
- Build community around authentic, evidence-driven biblical study
- Lead and co-lead educational tours and expeditions to biblical lands
- Provide tools that empower individuals to study independently
- Grow partnerships, donor support, and grants to sustain archaeological and educational initiatives
Long-Term Vision
As a young and growing organization, we are developing The Athenæum in Jackson, Louisiana into a full educational hub for biblical study. Our mission is powered by broad community support through donations, memberships, and program participation.
A Major Milestone
We Are Officially a 501(c)(3)!
We are thrilled to share a landmark moment in our journey.
After being recognized as a nonprofit organization by the State of Louisiana on September 16, 2024, we submitted our federal 501(c)(3) application on October 30, 2025. Today—November 24, 2025—we received official IRS approval, retroactive to our original date of formation.
This federal recognition changes everything. It means:
- Tax-Deductible Donations: All contributions to HOREB Institute are now deductible under IRC §170.
- Legacy and Estate Gifts: HOREB is eligible to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers, and gifts under §§2055, 2106, and 2522.
- Expanded Opportunities: Grant access, partnerships, and new funding avenues will help us grow our educational content, archaeological research, and public programs.
Your support made this possible—and now every gift goes even further.
